Ben Bryant - Stars Assistant Coach

This will be Ben’s third year coaching at Fargo Post 400. Ben is a born and raised Fargo native who graduated from Fargo South in 2017. Bryant was a 3x all-conference player for South and won Rookie of the Year, 2 Defensive Player of the Year, 1 Hitting Player of the Year, and an MVP Award during his career. He also won a Defensive Player of the Year, 3x Hustle Award winner and holds the all-time hits record with 215 at Fargo Post 2. Ben also won a state championship in 2015, 2016 & 2017 with Post 2 and was selected as the State Tournament MVP in 2017. He currently is furthering his academic career and playing baseball at the University of Minnesota - Crookston. Ben plans to attend medical school after he gets his Bachelors's Degree in Biology and a second degree in exercise science.


Jeff Fiechtner - Stars Assistant / Pitching Coach

Jeff Fiechtner will be in his first season at Post 400 but is hardly an unknown in the baseball world.  Jeff was the head coach at Fargo North High School from 1998-2019.  Jeff also was head coach of the Fargo Post 2 legion program from 2009 to 2011 and elected into the Post 2 HOF in 2007.   He helped lead Fargo to two state championships as a player in 1974 and 1976.  He hit .318 for his career at the plate with 17 home runs, 35 doubles, and 127 RBIs.  Jeff really excelled on the mound with a 21-11 record with a 2.26 ERA over three seasons at Post 2.  Coach Fiechtner attended junior college at DMACC (Boone, IA) and was All-District and compiled an 18-7 mound record with a 1.96 ERA.  He then went on to Grand Canyon University in Arizona where his team won back-to-back NAIA national championships in 1980 and 1981.  He played one year in the San Diego Padres Organization and four seasons in Western Canadian League where he had a 39-11 mark with a 1.41 ERA including one league championship and the MVP of the league in 1981.  Coach Fiechtner also played three seasons in Australia where his team won three straight national titles and he was the tournament MVP all three seasons and league MVP twice. 

Jeff is married to Vicki  and together they have five kids and soon to be three grandchildren.  Coach Fiechtner will be the full time pitching coach for Post 400 and assistant coach for the Stars.  We feel fortunate to add someone of his caliber to the program.  He has coaching stints in Canada, Grand Canyon, Kensington Australia, Arizona, and Fargo.

Tyler Ukestad - Astros Head Coach

Tyler is in his second year of coaching in the Post 400 program and will be an assistant for the Astros this season. He has coached the previous summers at various levels in Jamestown and Valley City. He was Valley City’s head Babe Ruth Coach from 2017-2018 and was an assistant varsity coach in the Spring of 2019. 

Coach Ukestad grew up in Jamestown, ND. He went on to play football and baseball at Valley City State University for 5 and 4 years, respectively. He graduated from VCSU in Spring 2019 with a double major in PE and Math Education. He taught K-6 PE in Oakes, ND from the Fall 2019-Spring 2020. This past fall, Tyler was the Head Football Coach at Northern Cass.  He was a long-term sub, para, and bus driver at the school.  He lives in Fargo with his girlfriend Sarah and his dog Hank.

 


Matt Nelson - Astros Assistant Coach

2020 (Sophomore): Nelson appeared in three games with two starts on the 2020 season...Went 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA for the Golden Eagles...Hitters had just a .180 batting average against Nelson in 2020...Pitched 13.2 innings for UMN Crookston...Notched 19 strikeouts with just four walks...Posted a 0.98 WHIP on the season...Notched eight strikeouts over six innings versus West Virginia Wesleyan...Tallied eight strikeouts in a 5.2 inning outing with just two hits allowed against Rockhurst.

2019: Freshman season...Appeared in 12 games with three starts...Finished the year with a 1-1 record and a 7.89 ERA...Had 19 strikeouts and 19 walks...Went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on five hits in a win over Bemidji State.

Prior to Minnesota Crookston: Nelson was named the St. Croix Lutheran Player of the Year as a junior. He posted 15 strikeouts as a sophomore. Nelson has been a two-time All-Tri Metro Conference pick. He also played football at St. Croix Lutheran H.S.

Personal: Nelson is the son of Barry and Dianne Nelson. He is undecided on his major. He was born Jan. 17, 2000. His uncle David Vonesh played basketball at the University of North Dakota. His mother Dianne (Vonesh) Nelson played basketball and volleyball at Minnesota Crookston.

Nathan Demarais - Comets Head Coach

Nathan is a born and raised Fargo native who graduated from Davies High School in 2015.  While attending DHS, Nathan played baseball and hockey. He is also a Post 2 alumni and was a member of the state championship team in 2014 (Jets) & 2015 (Post 2). During his time with Post 2, he was awarded Batting Champ and MVP.  Nathan played baseball for Dickinson State University 2015-2018 and currently is with the Valley City State University baseball program while finishing his degree in Exercise Science and minor in coaching. Nathan will be in his third year of coaching for Post 400 and will be the head coach again this season for the Comets program. 


Jake Bryant - Comets Assistant Coach

 

Post 400 would like to introduce former player and team MVP Jake Bryant as a coach for the organization. Bryant was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota and graduated from Fargo South High School in 2020. Bryant was an all-region player for the Bruin baseball team and helped South/Shanley capture 2nd place in the 2020 ND State High School Hockey Tournament. Jake is currently furthering his academic and baseball career at Riverside College in Austin, MN.


Jake will be an assistant coach with Post 400 focusing on the Comets squad this summer. This will be Jake’s first year coaching with Post 400 and we are excited to add a former player of his caliber to this years coaching mix.


Trey Larimer - Pitching / Catching Coach

Post 400 would like to welcome Trey Larimer to the organization. Larimer was born and raised in Thompson, North Dakota and graduated from Thompson Public School in 2018. Larimer was a 3x all-region player for Thompson and won a high school state championship with Thompson in 2016. Additionally, Larimer won a state championship in 2017, 2018 & 2019 with Thompson Legion Post 181. Trey is currently furthering his academic and baseball career at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Trey is the co-president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at the University of Minnesota-Crookston and is planning to major in Biology, Health Sciences, and Sport and Recreational Management.

Trey will be an assistant coach with Post 400 and work primarily with the pitchers and catchers on the Comets/Astros. This will be Trey’s first year coaching with Post 400 and we are excited to add someone with Trey’s successful history to the family.


Mike Lang - Hitting Coach

Mike will be in his first season as Post 400 and has grown a reputation in the Fargo area of being one of the top hitting coaches in the region.  Mike went to St. Peter’s Prep High School in New Jersey and attended Rutgers University in the Big Ten where he ranks in the top 10 in school history in several different categories including hits, doubles, triples, home runs, runs, and total bases. After a highly successful collegiate career, Mike signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and spent 8 seasons in professional baseball. After five plus seasons with the Sioux City Explorers, Lang leads the franchise in hits (642), games played (538), runs (432), doubles (106), triples (32), total bases (912), at bats (2,135), plate appearances (2,421), hit by pitches (52), and is 2nd in stolen bases (143).  He became the 13th player in league history to reach 600 career hits and is a 3x American Association All Star. In addition, Mike helped lead the Saint Paul Saints to their first championship in the American Association in 2019. 

Mike is married to Briana and they have two beautiful girls.  Mike looks forward to teaching the players proper mechanics and incorporate a good mental approach into the players at bats.   He will utilize technology to help teach but also give specific drills to players so they can continue to improve through proper repetitions.
